Dutch Icon Tour
From the hustle and the bustle of Amsterdam it is only minutes to the magnificent countryside in the north of the city. This area is called Waterland and you will soon discover why: there is water everywhere! This landscape is as Dutch as you can get it: Polders, canals, lakes and neat little villages on the borders of the former Zuiderzee.
Our first destination is Volendam, a very traditional Dutch fisherman village that attracts many visitors of the Netherlands. You will be impressed by its romantic small houses, draw bridges and canals.
Board the MarkenExpress and sail to the even smaller fishing village of Marken, the former island that is now connected to the mainland. Marken is one of the most picturesque villages in the Netherlands. Admire the wooden houses on piles and the traditional colorful costumes that some locals proudly wear in daily life.
Enjoy your Dutch lunch in a typical fisherman inn in the harbor of the island.
We continue through Dutch scenery with its green wooden houses and eye-catching windmills. We will visit a working windmill, a wooden shoe factory and a cheese maker on our way.
